Dirty Politics
The Obama campaign responded to McCain's most recent ad with the following statement:
"The Obama campaign slams back. Hari Sevugan, a spokesman, issued this statement: This ad is a lie, and it’s part of the old, tired politics of a party in Washington that has run out of ideas and run out of steam.
“Even though a host of independent, nonpartisan organizations have said this attack isn’t true, Senator McCain continues to lie about Senator Obama’s plan to give 95% of all families a tax cut of $1,000, and not raise taxes for those making under $250,000 a single dime.
“The reason so many families are hurting today is because we’ve had eight years of failed Bush policies that Senator McCain wants to continue for another four, and that’s what Barack Obama will change as president.”"

MY ONLY QUESTION FOR YOU MR SAVUGAN IS WHY YOU AND MR OBAMA CAN'T BE "THE BIGGER MEN HERE" AND NOT TAKE SHOTS BACK, BY DOING THIS YOU ARE ONLY STOOPING TO THE LOW LEVEL THAT YOU CLAIM MR. MCCAIN SHOULDN'T BE AT.

Daniel, do you really believe that when one campaign misrepresents the opinion of the other, the other campaign should just take the higher road and keep their mouth shut? John Kerry refused to repudiate or make an issue out of the Swift Boaters in the last election and many people attribute that decision to his losing.
Mordy, I believe in it %100. Imagine the day when we don't have to hear about people like John Edwards lying(sorry I had to put this in here because he's just evil) and got to hear just about the issues. I do agree that it is an idealistic view and probably won't happen (at least until I run for office), however, being a bigger man definitely leads to success many more times then stooping to the level of others. What is most unfortunate is that this path is not taken more often, but as Robert Frost wrote "I took the road LESS traveled by and that has made all the difference"
You didn't really respond to my question. How do you feel politicians should deal with lies and smears considering that those things can bring down a non-responsive campaign?
Mordy-I though I did respond to your question, but here is the answer in a more straight forward way. Number one, The "Swift Boaters" issue did not lose John Kerry the election he stood no chance either way. Number two, although most of the American people are stupid enough to believe whatever they hear or see and dirty statements will draw more attention, my strategy would be to continue to state my own ideas and release positive statements as a response to false negative attacks.
